Robert Graves was a poet, short story writer, historical novelist, historian, critic and soldier. He is most famous for his historical novel, “I Claudius”, and “Goodbye to All That”
his memoir about his childhood and adolescence and his experiences in the trenches as a soldier. The illustration titled, “A Desperate Man” is self-portrait by the French painter Gustave Courbet.
